DRUG DELIVERY
Vector Characterization

Structural insight into viral particles, delivery systems and formulation-related molecular assemblies.

From particle structure to delivery-relevant insight.

Drug delivery vectors often depend on more than composition alone. Their function is shaped by particle architecture, morphology, size distribution, assembly state and how structural features change across preparation, formulation or storage conditions.

Structural biology helps make these properties visible. For viral particles, vesicles, protein assemblies or other delivery-related systems, imaging and biophysical analysis can reveal whether the expected structures are present, how homogeneous the sample is and where particle-to-particle differences may influence interpretation.

At BIMOVIS, we support drug delivery vector characterization by connecting structural biology, particle analysis and molecular visualization. Depending on the system and project question, this may involve cryo-EM, cryo-ET, negative stain electron microscopy, mass photometry, image analysis or visual communication of complex particle data.

The goal is to make structural information useful for development decisions: what the particles look like, how consistent they are, which features matter and which questions need further analytical or structural follow-up.

Where structural biology supports drug delivery vector characterization.

VIRAL PARTICLE CHARACTERIZATION

Viral particle characterization

Structural imaging can help assess viral particles and viral vector preparations by showing morphology, integrity, particle distribution and structural heterogeneity. This provides useful context when particle quality or assembly state is central to the project.

MORPHOLOGY & INTEGRITY

Particle morphology and integrity

Negative stain EM, cryo-EM and cryo-ET can reveal whether particles are intact, disrupted, aggregated or present in multiple forms. This helps connect visual particle features with sample preparation, formulation or process-related questions.

STRUCTURAL HETEROGENEITY

Structural heterogeneity

Drug delivery systems are often not uniform. Structural biology can help identify differences between individual particles, vesicles or assemblies and provide a clearer view of how heterogeneous the sample really is.

VECTOR ARCHITECTURE

Vector architecture and organization

Cryo-ET and related imaging approaches can support questions around particle architecture, internal organization, membrane association or spatial arrangement of components. This is especially valuable when the delivery system is too complex to be understood from bulk measurements alone.

FORMULATION & COMPARABILITY

Formulation and comparability context

Structural and biophysical readouts can support comparison of batches, conditions or preparation strategies. They can provide context for in-process quality control, formulation assessment or troubleshooting when particle behavior changes during development.
